During the Tokyo Olympics, the International Olympic Committee voted to approve skimo as an additional sport in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy. The additional means that skimo isn’t in permanently yet, BUT it’s looking like the 2030 Olympics will be in Salt Lake, so it’s fairly likely that those games will also have skimo. Woohoo!
What does this mean for SEA? Well, it means that we will be working on some new programs and products over the coming months to help get more and more people into the sport! If you want some help with your skimo performance, drop us a line (info@SummitEnduranceAcademy.com) and give us some ideas of what YOU would like to see for our services.
Hopefully the Olympic buzz helps get the sport in front of more people and we’ll see those people at local races and shops. Additionally, the US Ski Mountaineering Association (USSMA) is putting in a BIG push to be able to support athletes better with the goal of US medals in 2026. If you’re interested in helping grow the sport of skimo in the US, email info@USSMA.org.
In the meantime, I hope you’re all enjoying this summer as it wraps up! It has been a wild one here in Summit County, Colorado with lots of smoke, rain, and people getting after it on the trails!
Hope You’re Well,
Joe & The SEA Team
